I found a thread discussing Python versus R. If you, like me, have used both R and Python, I think you'll find it interesting. My favorite quote:
The difference between a general purpose language and a DSL is the difference between a cow and a carton of milk. Sure, the cow has lots more features - it can make lots more milk and fertalizer to boot, and it can even pull a wagon if you are so inclined. But if all you want is a glass of milk and you get a cow, then you've got an oversized bovine crapping in your office.
